What do I need to practice co-sleeping?

Co-sleeping crib

First of all, you are going to need a baby crib that is prepared to be used as co-sleeping . In our section of co-sleeping cribs , you can find a very wide selection, with different designs and colors.

Co-sleeping conversion kit

To convert the crib into co-sleeping, you will have to obtain a co-sleeping kit to adjust the crib to this practice in the easiest, safest and most comfortable way possible.

This kit includes: straps to hold the crib to the bed, a mattress insert to avoid leaving a gap between the crib and the bed, and a piece of wood to stop and tighten the straps so they do not come loose.

Steps to fix a crib attached to the bed

Below you will see, in detail, the steps to follow to join the co-sleeping crib next to mom and dad's bed.

1. First of all, you must choose the optimal height of the crib base so that it is at the same level as the double bed. Depending on the crib model, it will have different heights. We recommend that the bed base of the crib be 1 or 2 centimeters below the large bed , to prevent the baby from moving into the bed at night.

2. Next, we will remove one of the crib rails and screw the extension wood to the bed base of the crib , in order to prevent gaps between the crib and the parents' bed. To do this, we are going to use 3 screws, one for the center and the other two for the ends of the wood.

3. Once the wood is screwed, we will tie one of the ends of the safety straps to the bars of the crib (on the railing that will not be removed to practice co-sleeping).

4. Now it's time to fix the safety straps to the bed. This step will vary depending on the type of bed you have. In the case of beds with a slatted base , you must pass the straps under the crib and tie the other ends to the base. If you have a bed with a canapé or a slatted base with an upholstered base , we will pass them under the mattress of the double bed, until the end. After stretching the ribbons, you must pass them inside the wood to make it abut the mattress of the double bed.

5. Finally, to ensure that the crib does not move, we will put the brakes on the wheels of the crib (if any).

You now have your co-sleeping crib ready to use! All that's left to do is dress it and put your newborn inside :).

Crib to practice baby co-sleeping

Frequent questions:

  • Can a co-sleeping crib be used with a trundle bed?

This is one of the questions our clients ask us most. The answer is YES ;) Our co-sleeping cribs can be mounted on beds with slatted bases as well as beds with canapé or upholstered bases. The safety straps included in our co-sleeping kit are designed to adapt to all types of beds. If you have questions, you can contact us and we will help you confirm if in your case you can practice co-sleeping with one of our cribs.

  • Should the baby's mattress be lower than that of the parents' bed?

From the fourth month (approx.), babies are already able to turn around. That is why we recommend that your mattress be below the double one, since it could move to the parents' bed and suffer some damage. Ideally, the baby's mattress should be about 2 or 3 cm lower.

  • What height of bed base do I have to choose to install the co-sleeping kit?

The height of the bed base will depend on the height of the double bed. Our cribs have different heights (between 5 and 7, depending on the model) of the slatted base and this will make it easier for you to install it on your bed as tight as possible.
