Why we chose rattan cribs?
Apart from the high demand for rattan cribs and wicker cribs these days, we love the idea of making our furniture from eco-friendly materials . Bringing a quality product that is as natural as possible to our new moms and dads makes us very excited!
Alondra's new line of cradles, mini cradles and rattan furniture is made with a naturally renewable rattan fiber mesh , that is, with original rattan palm. The collection of this material is a multigenerational tradition among many Indonesian families, who live in areas where tropical forests abound.
This tradition is based on harvesting by cutting the longest and thinnest rattan stems, which regrow quickly after harvest. In this way , the carving of the tree is avoided in a massive and radical way, that is why we say that rattan is a 100% ecological raw material .
After this harvest, the rattan stems are cleaned by removing the top layer and cut into smaller pieces. In order to be able to manipulate the stems and mold them, they are processed by heating them, so that they can thus acquire the desired shape.
To begin with the manufacture of the furniture, a structure connected by staples or nails is built. After the preparation of this base, the rest of the furniture begins to be woven, so that the main structure is united by means of this fabric.
Finally, the joints of the furniture are braided with the rattan strips . This material is in charge of providing resistance to the structure, covering the staples, nails or glue used in the structure, as well as providing the decorative function. The last procedure consists of protecting the furniture with a certified water-based varnish , complying with the ASTM F 963 - 03 and EN71 - 3 regulations.
At Alondra we have decided on rattan furniture and cribs, since it is a highly valuable material. They are usually confused with wicker cribs, because the appearance is very similar. Aesthetically, both materials are a trend in decoration. As for rattan, its qualities define it as a very durable element , because it is very light and not very heavy.

To give it more sophistication and make the piece of furniture more beautiful and striking, the legs are made of metal (lacquered in off-white).
